The results of our US nationwide analysis of mortality for acute pancreatitis before and during the COVID-19 pandemic show a concerning increase. Specifically, compared to the last pre-pandemic year (2019), the age-adjusted death rate for acute pancreatitis increased by 16.5% and 21.1% in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Abstract
The results of our US nationwide analysis of mortality for acute pancreatitis before and during the COVID-19 pandemic show a concerning increase. Specifically, compared to the last pre-pandemic year (2019), the age-adjusted death rate for acute pancreatitis increased by 16.5% and 21.1% in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
