La proiezione internazionale di Mario Segre: la ricerca storica nel Dodecaneso e la rete di aiuti al tempo della persecuzione

This article investigates how M. Segre’s research on the ancient history of Rhodes increased his visibility among classicists during the 1930s. Scholars of various nationalities greatly appreciated his work, including R. Herzog, C.S. Blinkenberg, L. Robert, and G. Klaffenbach. In addition, M.N. Tod tried to help Segre materially when the Fascist regime ousted him from the Italian university in 1938. Tod’s intervention is confirmed by the documents present in Segre’s personal file at the archive of the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning (Bodleian Library, Oxford). From here, it emerges that Tod was also among those who, immediately after World War II, sought information about Segre’s still uncertain fate and, upon learning the news of his death, were concerned about publishing his unpublished studies.
