The article discusses the school policy implemented by Christian Democratic Minister Luigi Gui, in agreement with Prime Minister Aldo Moro during the period between 1962 and 1968. The organic project of reforming the Italian school system (from kindergarten to university) stemmed from the goal of bringing schools in line with the Constitution of the Republic, in order to trigger a process of democratic advancement of the entire society. A special focus is on two important social reforms: compulsory middle school (1962) and state preschool (1968).
