The article presents the literary output of Lino Monchieri (1922-2001), an elementary school teacher interned in Nazi Germany (1943-1945) for choosing not to join the fascist government of the Italian Social Republic. His children's books combine literary value and educational commitment. For Monchieri, the reconstruction of Europe is possible only by educating the younger generations in peace, coexistence, and solidarity
