The article analyzes four publications printed in Brescia between 1940 and 1944: two educational textbooks for perspective teachers in preparation for national public competition (published by Editrice La Scuola) and two ideological essays (Editrice Vannini). While trying to shape a “racial and imperial conscience” and spreading a xenophobic and anti-Semitic ideology, the authors of these publications contributed to create the cultural milieu for the approval and the implementation of racial legislation in Italy.

Abstract

The article analyzes four publications printed in Brescia between 1940 and 1944: two educational textbooks for perspective teachers in preparation for national public competition (published by Editrice La Scuola) and two ideological essays (Editrice Vannini).
