This paper proposes a review of the archaeological research conducted by Stefano De Stefani in the low Valpantena (VR), also considering the documentary sources of the Archivio Privato De Stefani (APDS), subject of the writer’s doctoral research. The investigation, whose chronology of findings is between Romanisation and the early Middle Ages, involves a review of the archival documentation, including correspondence, notebooks and drawings, as well as the of the author’s own publications. The objectives include the analysis of the used investigation methodologies and the given interpretations, in relation to the historical- scientific context that produced them and to the comparison with the current data.
Il presente contributo propone una revisione delle ricerche archeologiche condotte da Stefano De Stefani nella bassa Valpantena (VR), alla luce anche delle fonti documentali dell’Archivio Privato De Stefani (APDS), oggetto della ricerca dottorale della scrivente. L’indagine, la cui cronologia dei rinvenimenti è compresa tra la romanizzazione e l’Alto Medioevo, prevede un riesame della documentazione archivistica, tra cui carteggi, taccuini, disegni e delle pubblicazioni dell‘autore stesso. Gli obiettivi comprendono l’analisi delle metodologie d’indagine utilizzate e le interpretazioni date, in relazione al contesto storico-scientifico che le ha prodotte ed al confronto col dato attuale.
