The article analyzes aspects that correlate economic development, remittances, and the return of migrants to the countries of origin. The objective is to demonstrate some of the economic processes that shape development in immigrants' places of origin. The analysis is based on a literature review, but, above all, on field research with Senegalese migrants who have returned to their country. The text concludes that, at least for the Senegalese interviewed, financial remittances are fundamental for improving the living conditions of their families who remain in the country of origin and for the local development of the native places. However, they configure differentiations between family units, induce and attract new flows, produce financial dependence, and a total absence of coordination of the public sphere in relation to these resources.
