The article deals with a terminological study on the syntactic field in the medieval period. In the analysis of the parts of the speech functionally dedicated to studies on the so-called submerged syntax, the term coniunctio plays a very important role. However, in the examination of this terminology, we come across two terms that simultaneously share, exchange and divide different areas of use over time and among the various authors: besides coniunctio, we find the root-related iunctura. For the purposes of this study, occurrences of iunctura were collected and compared with other terms during their attestations, especially in the Middle Ages, and, where meaningful, also with some root-related terms, such as coniunctio, (ad/con)nectens and ordinans, iungere and coniungere. The considered terminology concerns strategies of clause construction besides the formation of the syllable and syntagms as well as the description of other concepts. The analysis of the material coming from different periods allows us to reconstruct an internal story that follows both a chronological and a conceptual development in the discussion of the history of grammatical thought.
