This article deals with the mechanisms of re-fictionalization of chivalric genre in the novel Galaor (1972) by the Mexican writer Hugo Hiriart. Specifically, choosing as a starting point the folkloric motifs and the set of thematic and narrative motifs that characterize the extensive corpus of Spanish Books of Chivalry, the structure and the fictional ingredients used by the author to promote the adaptation of the genre to a context of current reception. The objective of the work is to assess how, through parody and hyperbolic configuration, Hiriart manages to recreate an unusual chivalric universe, based on a constant violation of conventional topics, to the point of questioning his own characters (and the contemporary reader with them) about moral and existential questions that break with the expected horizon typical of the genre.

El presente artículo analiza los mecanismos de re-ficcionalización de la caballería literaria en la novela Galaor (1972) del mexicano Hugo Hiriart. En concreto, eligiendo como punto de partida los motivos folclóricos y el conjunto de motivos temáticos y narrativos que caracteriza el extenso corpus de los libros de caballerías castellanos, se tomarán en consideración la estructura y los expedientes ficcionales empleados por el autor para impulsar la adaptación del género a un contexto de recepción actual. El objetivo del trabajo es valorar cómo, por medio de la parodización y la configuración hiperbólica, Hiriart consigue recrear un universo caballeresco insólito, basado en una constante infracción a los tópicos convencionales, hasta interrogar sus propios personajes (y el lector contemporáneo con ellos) sobre cuestiones morales y existenciales que rompen con el horizonte de espera típico del género.
