This study investigates some aspects of the renal adaptation in the loss of glomeruli typical of ageing. Specifically the existence of a condition of hyperfiltration and of an alteration of the glomerular permeability-selectivity to proteins were examined. After the intravenous infusion of aminoacids in elderly subjects, there was no increase of the glomerular filtration rate, thus indicating the exhaustion of the physiological ''renal functional reserve'', and the existence of a condition of hyperfiltration in the remaining glomeruli.

Abstract
This study investigates some aspects of the renal adaptation in the loss of glomeruli typical of ageing. Specifically the existence of a condition of hyperfiltration and of an alteration of the glomerular permeability-selectivity to proteins were examined. After the intravenous infusion of aminoacids in elderly subjects, there was no increase of the glomerular filtration rate, thus indicating the exhaustion of the physiological ''renal functional reserve'', and the existence of a condition of hyperfiltration in the remaining glomeruli.File in questo prodotto:
