Starting from the main characteristics that define the motif of the enchanted ship in the Spanish Romances of Chivalry, its variations within an extensive corpus of chivalric texts are studied. Specifically, the representation of the enchanted vehicle in the foundational works of the genre is described, identifying in the craft of the Serpent of Urganda the model for the animalized ships and floating buildings later used by other authors. Finally, the Foucauldian definition of heterotopy is used to explain the configuration of the enchanted ship as a space for the marvellous adventure
