This article focuses on the earliest two translations in vernacular Italian of the Bibliotheca historica by Diodorus Siculus, during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries (respectively, books I-II and books I-V). Both translations are anonymous and are based on the previous Latin version of Diodorus’ work, completed by Poggio Bracciolini in 1449. After a brief presentation of the vernacular texts, the paper explores their relationship with the complex textual tradition of Poggio’s translation and - possibly - with other secondary sources

Abstract
