This paper summarizes in a historiographic perspective the premises that around the mid-twentieth centu- ry led to the hypothesis of a partial forgery of the Epistola. Taking for granted those premises, during the following decades a lot of papers were published arguing for its partial spuriousness. Once those premises have been dismissed by philological evidences all those papers should consequently be set aside.

Abstract
