According to Asociación Cultural Tebeosfera’s (ACT) latest annual report, the translation of the “ninth art” has started to occupy an important place within the publishing industry. As is widely acknowledged, in the translation of comics it is essential to consider elements other than just the written word. Therefore, in this article we will illustrate the most significant pitfalls faced when translating this type of text. We will do so by analyzing some cartoons taken from the graphic novel El invierno del dibujante (Roca, 2010), which we will compare with the corresponding ones from the Italian translation made by Bernardo Mele (L’inverno del disegnatore, 2011).

Abstract
According to Asociación Cultural Tebeosfera’s (ACT) latest annual report, the translation of the “ninth art” has started to occupy an important place within the publishing industry. As is widely acknowledged, in the translation of comics it is essential to consider elements other than just the written word. Therefore, in this article we will illustrate the most significant pitfalls faced when translating this type of text. We will do so by analyzing some cartoons taken from the graphic novel El invierno del dibujante (Roca, 2010), which we will compare with the corresponding ones from the Italian translation made by Bernardo Mele (L’inverno del disegnatore, 2011).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
