Il romanzo spagnolo del Rinascimento ITA Il contributo intende attirare attenzione sul ruolo europeo giocato dal romanzo cavalleresco spagnolo del Rinascimento, il vero best seller che spicca sulla picaresca, sul romanzo sentimentale e pastorale. Nel momento dell’introduzione della stampa, dell’innovazione dell’industria e del mercato del libro, dell’incremento delle traduzioni che definirono le lingue nazionali europee, il romanzo divenne merce per un pubblico di tutti gli strati sociali, sostenne la crescita dell’alfabetizzazione e la nuova abitudine alla lettura silenziosa. Se, per secoli, i romanzi furono delegittimati dai moralisti che ne temevano il potenziale trasgressivo e dai letterati che ne criticavano le disarmonie e irregolarità, va rivendicata l’importanza del romance cavalleresco d’amore e d’avventura, temi principali della narrativa moderna. La Penisola Iberica produsse un centinaio di nuovi romanzi, una cifra formidabile tra cui spiccano i cicli di Amadís de Gaula e di Palmerín de Olivia: una enorme quantità di prosa che costituisce una lacuna nelle attuali ricostruzioni storiche. Elementi come il meraviglioso costruito con artifici concettisti e barocchi, le tecniche narrative sorprendenti, i procedimenti per attivare la suspense e i giochi metanarrativi estremamente moderni, come anche la dilatazione del mondo narrato in prequel e sequel, si trasmetteranno alla narrativa posteriore. Cervantes approfittò di una forma che offriva una cornice accogliente per gli elementi nuovi che introdusse. I libros de caballerías furono un genere multiforme che incantò molte persone, illetterate e colte. Oggi possiamo studiarli senza criteri moralistici e pregiudizi anacronistici per capire l’eredità che hanno lasciato alla storia del romanzo. ENG The article aims to draw attention to the European role played by the Spanish Renaissance romance of chivalry, the real best seller that stands out on the picaresque, on the sentimental and pastoral novel. During the 16th century, with the introduction of the printing-press, the innovation of the book market, the translations that defined the European national languages, Chivalric romance became a product for an audience of all social levels, it supported the growth of the literacy and the new habit of silent reading. For centuries, romances were delegitimized by moralists who feared their transgressive potential and by men of letters who criticized their disharmonies and irregularities; however, the importance of chivalric romance of love and adventure, the main themes of modern fiction, must be claimed. The Iberian Peninsula produced a hundred new romances, a formidable figure among which the cycles of Amadís de Gaula and Palmerín de Olivia stand out: an enormous amount of prose that constitutes a gap in current historical reconstructions. Elements such as the “admiration” built with conceptual and baroque artifices, surprising narrative techniques, procedures for activating suspense and extremely modern metanarrative games, as well as the expansion of the world narrated in prequels and sequels, will be transmitted to later narrative. Cervantes took advantage of a greatly adaptable frame for the new elements he introduced. Libros de caballerías were a multifaceted genre that enchanted many people, illiterate and cultured. Today we can study them without moralistic criteria and anachronistic prejudices to understand the legacy they have left to the history of the novel.
