Abstract

I read with interest the study by Lin et al.1 , who have tested and validated in a "real world" setting the new definition for the diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) that has been recently proposed by a panel of international experts.2 The diagnostic criteria of MAFLD are based on evidence of hepatic steatosis, in addition to one of the following three criteria, namely overweight/obesity, presence of type 2 diabetes, or evidence of metabolic dysregulation.
