This paper aims to present, with some introductory notes, an Index of biblical quotations in the «Liber vitae patrum» of Gregory of Tours (538-594), a collection of twenty biographies of saints which occupies the seventh place in his «Miraculorum libri octo», the most demanding hagiographic work of the bishop of Tours. The text of Gregory’s quotations was compared with that of the Vulgate and with that of the other Latin translations of the Bible before Jerome’s Vulgate; the citations were classified in seven distinct categories, based on criteria of form and function.
