The paper focuses particularly on the Plutarch’s controversies involving other historians about military matters. Other passages, concerning the right and the wrong of the war and offering not merely biographical features, are taken into consideration (Marc., 1 e 21, 3; Sull., 6, 2-5; Comp. Lyc Numa, 4, 7).
