“Tra moglie e marito...”: le “leggi” del matrimonio secondo André Tiraqueau

André Tiraqueau, an early 16th century French magistrate, wrote a treatise concerning the relationship between spouses, reflecting the idea that the marriage can work only if the husband is the acknowledged head of the wife. On this basis he elaborated 16 marriage laws on how man should choose his future bride and treat her after the wedding, with a liberal use of classical sources that go beyond the juridical.

André Tiraqueau, magistrato francese della prima metà del XVI secolo, scrive un trattato dedicato ai rapporti tra i coniugi e fondato sull’idea che il matrimonio possa funzionare soltanto se il marito è il capo riconosciuto della moglie. Su tale presupposto egli formula sedici “leggi” matrimoniali su come l’uomo deve scegliere la futura moglie e come deve comportarsi con lei dopo le nozze, con grande sfoggio di allegazione delle fonti classiche, non soltanto giuridiche.
