This note focuses on three indirectly transmitted fragments of Sophocles (frr. 150, 722, 338 R.2). In section 1., it is argued that positing a lacuna in fr. 150.1 R.2 is unnecessary and that the transmitted text may in fact be sound. In section 2., it is shown that fr. 722 R.2 may be identified with the locus classicus of Hsch. κ 3149 Latte. Lastly, in section 3, a new interpretation and a possible context of fr. 338 R.2 are proposed.

Abstract

This note focuses on three indirectly transmitted fragments of Sophocles (frr. 150, 722, 338 R.2). In section 1., it is argued that positing a lacuna in fr. 150.1 R.2 is unnecessary and that the transmitted text may in fact be sound. In section 2., it is shown that fr. 722 R.2 may be identified with the locus classicus of Hsch. κ 3149 Latte. Lastly, in section 3, a new interpretation and a possible context of fr. 338 R.2 are proposed.
