The PhD Thesis focuses on the analysis of the shaping of the main characters of Euripides' IT (Iphigenia, Orestes, Pylades), in comparison with Goethe's "Iphigenie auf Tauris". The first chapter analyzes the character of Iphigenia in her role of narrator in the Euripidean prologue. The second chapter deals with the finale of Euripides' play. The third chapter is centered on the pair of friends Orestes and Pylades. The last two chapters illustrate how Goethe reshapes the main characters of his model in order to deliver a partly different ethic and philosphic message.
