The Chapter examines the Labour Party’s attitude towards the constitutional issues related to the 2014 Scottish referendum on independence. Within the broader English constitutional context, it applies the comparative legal method to the examination of the strategies the Labour resorted to in the aftermath of the Edinburgh Agreement and during the referendum campaign. It also delves into the current constitutional issues, and analyses the reasons of the crisis of consensus that has been affecting the Labour since the referendum was held. It then highlights how the Labour has progressively severed their traditional relation with Scottish welfarism and territory, as well as Scottish urban, working-class electorate. Finally, it upholds that the debate on Scottish independence requires Labour to rethink its relationship with the territorial dimensions of Britain.
