Moving from Adrienne Rich seminal work on maternity and female subjectivity, the essay discusses how many feminist issues that arose with critical and radical potential in the 70's and '80s are now being coopted into neo-liberal and biopolitical discourses that refer above all to health and wellbeing. The essay analyzes present biopolitics in light of a gendered perspective and discusses Foucault's notion of bio-power as gender-neutral, and therefore in need to be integrated and adjourned to the different forms bio-politics and neoliberalism affect women's bodies. Finally the essay , in light of the new biopolitical trend, speculates on possible ways out of the neo-liberal seize on women's bodies.
