The aim of this article is to explore the following complex issues, which appearto be densely interconnected: the connection between the single word meaningand the sentence meaning according to Alston leading over to Wittgenstein’scomments on Moore’s claims about ascertained knowledge. This connects directlyto attempts at describing the uses of ich weiß ‘I know’, in particular those byMoore and Wittgenstein, the meaning of the explicit performative, and, finally, toits possible pursuance in an approach to dialogical analysis.
