The paper is written in response to the contributions presented in the section Mesopotamia and the World: Interregional Interaction of the Melammu 7 meeting. It examines various aspects of the relationships between the Mesopotamian world, especially Assyria, and other contexts both in time and space. It delvs mostly on the construction of the memory of the Mesopotamia empires in later sources, looking for their relationships with the events these documents refer to and with the shaping of a historical tradition that has surpassed Mesopotamian geographical and chronological borders.
