Abstract
Scrutiny of print was among the first Counter Reformation measures to fight Lutheran heresy in Europe. Since 1542 the Holy Office had been exercising an important role in examining publications. A specialised council was established to draw a list of prohibited books, the Index Librorum Prohibitorum , which was constantly updated. This paper will focus on the management of this index, as it highlights the differences ante and post concilius and who reverted to the Pope to resolve thorny matters.File in questo prodotto:
