While nationalisms have traditionally relied on heteronormative regimes of sexuality, recent analyses show that homosexuality is being currently assimilated by Western nationalist projects. The term 'homonationalism' has been coined by Jasbir Puar to designate this phenomenon. Within Europe, analyses of homonationalism have generally deployed a national focus. This chapter also centres on a national context (i.e., the Italian one). Nevertheless, it aims at overcoming what Ulrich Beck has called "methodological nationalism". Therefore, it considers the European dimension of homonationalism as it emerges in the entanglements between Italian social movements, Italian institutions, and European institutions.

Abstract
While nationalisms have traditionally relied on heteronormative regimes of sexuality, recent analyses show that homosexuality is being currently assimilated by Western nationalist projects. The term 'homonationalism' has been coined by Jasbir Puar to designate this phenomenon. Within Europe, analyses of homonationalism have generally deployed a national focus. This chapter also centres on a national context (i.e., the Italian one). Nevertheless, it aims at overcoming what Ulrich Beck has called "methodological nationalism". Therefore, it considers the European dimension of homonationalism as it emerges in the entanglements between Italian social movements, Italian institutions, and European institutions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
