Abstract

A forest system is composed of many different elements wich interact among themselves and with the external system. In particular, forest productive processes are able to offer both private and collective goods. Therefore, the management process of all these resources is complex. The core purpose of this study is to define a management strategy for developing a natural area, such as the West Garda regional Forest. To achieve this goal, we first apply cluster analysis in order to reduce the initial amount of information (GIS data), identifying wich micro-areas have similar bioecological functional characteristics. Therefore, using factor analysis, we identify wich environmental functions mainly characterize each cluster: we assign a name to each macro-area that emphasizes its natural vocation.
