The Auditory Brainstem Implant (ABI) was developed to provide electrical stimulation of the cochlear nucleus in the brainstem for patients with no remaining auditory nerve. The ABI functions like a cochlear implant (CI) except for the placement of the electrodes. The ABI electrode is placed within the lateral recess of the IV ventricle of the brain. Patients with the ABI hear different pitch percepts on the different electrodes and demonstraterelatively normal temporal processing ability.

Abstract
The Auditory Brainstem Implant (ABI) was developed to provide electrical stimulation of the cochlear nucleus in the brainstem for patients with no remaining auditory nerve. The ABI functions like a cochlear implant (CI) except for the placement of the electrodes. The ABI electrode is placed within the lateral recess of the IV ventricle of the brain. Patients with the ABI hear different pitch percepts on the different electrodes and demonstraterelatively normal temporal processing ability.File in questo prodotto:
