The combination of arterial disease of rhe lower limbs with a chronic venaos insufficiency can create diagnostic problems. The problem of incorrect etiological diagnosis is more marked if the patient has an ulcerous lesion and/or concomitant trophic alterations of the lower limbs. The arteriai disease is often asymptomatic, with predominance of the symptoms related to the venous insufficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate che incidence of arterial disease in 138 patienrs aged over 40 years examined in our phlebological clinic. In our series, the incidence of asymptomatic arteriai disease with alterations of the systolic index was 37%.. Through examination to ascertain possible arterial disease is indispensable in elderly patients before application of a bandage.
