This essay takes into account recent criticism on Tate's Richard II and goes beyond the political issues aroused by censorship to concentrate on the epistemological and cultural implications of Tate's adaptation. Special attention is laid on his omission of the famous 2.2 from Shakespeare's source, contributing to reducing polyphony and complexity much in the same way as censorship was doing in order to contain modern stances.
