MS. 603 of the Library of the Condé Museum (Chantilly, France) «Scelta di canzuni siciliane» is an anthology which contains 1011 poems (canzuni), and collects most of the major authors of the of 16th- and 17th-century Sicilian Petrarchism, writing in their local vernacular language. My dissertation is divided into two main sections: the first section gives historical and literary insights on the Sicilian Petrarchism and its most remarkable poets. This opening chapter offers a linguistic and literary analysis of the texts, aiming at pointing out some of their unique features: the metrical form of the canzuna (that is the sicilian version of the strambotto); the techniques of versification, with special attention to metre and rhythm; the differents types of rhyme schemes and the correlation between the rhythmic structure of verse and the logical rhythm of syntax (i.e. internal demarcations, enjambements, figures of speech, etc.). The second and more strictly philological part of my dissertation provides the critical edition of the texts, accompanied by the codicological study of the manuscript, its history and its transmission.

Abstract
