The paper deals with the representations of culture in EFL textbooks in Italy. Within an English as Lingua Franca (ELF) framework such representations should not be centred exclusively on Anglophone countries, but reflect the intercultural settings of ELF communication. An analysis of a corpus of EFL textbooks in Italy testifies to the fact that some innovative practices in this sense are being introduced.
