The paper has been committed by the organizers of the Volume "The shadow of Polybius. Intertextuality as research Tool in Greek Historiography", in order to complete a full analysis of the impact of this historian over his predecessors; the paper studies carefully all the quotations of Callisthenes made by Polybius – with a particular care for the manuscript tradition of the fragmentary Book XII - and highlights Polybius’ mental attitude towards Callisthenes. The author defines also the place of Polybius among the various ancient traditions about Callisthenes both as a person and as an historian.
