The original erection of the church of San Pietro (Saint Peter) dates back to Lombardic times (VIII century), when the diocese of Ceneda stretched as far as its oldest territorial boundaries. Some stone fragments, showing a geometric motif of curled ribbons and crossed links, have been found nearby and may date back to the period. The pristine composition of the Church was probably aisleless and with a circular apse, a largely common arrangement which, nevertheless does not exclude that the structure rested on more ancient foundations, whose material may have been re-employed. Roman traces (bricks bearing Roman stamps) have been indeed discovered on this site whose position, although a little removed from the ancient main roads, overlooks a vast territory.
