The focus of this work is to analyze the legal effects of using electronic signatures. It is divided in two parts. The first part is focused on the description of electronic signatures and their effectiveness. The second part is a discussion of the employment of electronic signatures by software agents, which is able to generate trust and trustworthiness in people, because electronic signatures are also valid electronic evidence in legal proceedings. In this way it is possible to build trust and confidence in the use of software agent technology.
