The location and extent of the Land of Amqi within the Beqaa Valley, the identification of its cities, and their relations with the Egyptian administrative centre of Kumidi are discussed, combining evidence from the Amarna letters, Egyptian sources, and settlement patterns. The evidence suggests a decentralised regional system of small, largely autonomous city-states capable of coordinated action, particularly in response to external threats.
