The essay examines the settlement of the religious order of San Francesco di Paola in the Venetian island of San Giorgio in Alga. After the suppression of the previous order in 1668, the Venetian Republic sold the island to the Minims recovering part of its finances spent for the Cretan War. This case study shows how the Minims resiliently tried to keep the island despite the number of difficul- ties they faced since the very beginning, forcing the friars to leave this convent after only 30 years.
