This article aims to analyse a fragment by the comic poet Timocles (mid-4th century BC) and compare it with the reflections on tragedy developed in Aristotle’s Poetics. It is possible, however, that the poet cites, parodying him, a motto of the philosopher from a famous passage of Politics.
