This chapter explores female bullying through girls’ own perspectives, aiming to reconstruct its meanings, dynamics, and effects starting from lived experiences. The study is part of a broader national mixed-method research project on female bullying in adolescence and adopts a qualitative approach centred on listening to participants’ subjectivities and valuing their narratives. Data were collected through 49 online focus groups conducted across seven Italian cities, involving 300 female students attending the first two years of upper secondary school. Data analysis followed the framework method through an inductive–deductive process. Findings show that female bullying is mainly perceived as a relational, verbal, and indirect phenomenon, characterised by exclusion, body shaming, social isolation, and symbolic aggression. The results highlight the central role of peer-group dynamics, the difficulties experienced by adults in recognising the phenomenon, and the profound emotional consequences for victims, including guilt, isolation, and psychological distress. The chapter also emphasises the importance of involving girls in research and prevention processes, advocating for educational interventions based on listening, empowerment, and the creation of safe and inclusive school environments.

Abstract
This chapter explores female bullying through girls’ own perspectives, aiming to reconstruct its meanings, dynamics, and effects starting from lived experiences.
