The paper explores Petrarch’s concepts of the body and old age as they have been described so far by critics. For the poet, senility is the moment in which the profound meaning of existence is revealed to humankind. Particular attention is given to the physical characteristics attributed to the senile body in some Latin works and in the Rvf. In conclusion, the paper examines how the images of senile bodies are featured in the well-known Querinian incunabulum G V 15 and in the 1756 edition of Petrarch’s Rime printed in Venice by Zatta.
