Digital health records are increasingly conquering a central role in healthcare and medical research by maximizing their potential for improving the decision-making, diagnostic processes, therapeutic choices, and, in general, the management of patients in the field of movement disorders. Implementation of mobile health technologies from different sources and future purposes of combination between different devices and algorithms will improve the collection of more granular and ecologically-valid objective data. Challenges to digital health records spreading come from high privacy requirements, cybersecurity of data, data integrity, and costs arising from the integration in systems and processes, including staff training and feedback for iterative improvements. The future evolution of health data sovereignty is also predictable, with the aim of expanding the involvement of patients in their own care and, consequently, in treatment adherence and enhancement of outcomes. Despite important challenges, digital health records are ready for wide deployment for nationwide improvement of healthcare management.
