Argentina's experience in legislatin through a Food Code

The Argentine Republic provides the main content of its food safety legislation in a single body known as the Argentine Food Code. It refers to the food produced, processed, packaged, and labeled, made available to the consumer. The Argentine Food Code is also the fundamental Act of the National Food Control System, as determined by Decree 815/99, which establishes said System. The Code includes the rules that must be complied with when a processed and ready-to-eat product is to be marketed anywhere in the country or exported. To be exported, the product must also comply with the requirements of the country of destination. The Code covers hygienic, sanitary, bromatological, and labelling aspects. It establishes the requirements for the approval, management, distribution, and control of food that has been processed, packaged, and conditioned for consumption, in aspects linked to the relationship between food and human health. Unlike European regulations, animal feed is not included in this system.
