Artists and artisans in the account books of Marino Grimani (late 16th - early 17th century)

The chapter examines the Venetian women artisans mentioned in the account books of Marino Grimani, doge of Venice at the end of the sixteenth century. It considers the imbalance between male and female names recorded, the types of female artisans who appear in these documents, and, more broadly, the gendered structure of the artisanal world in early modern Venice.
