Concern about the phenomenon of bullying during adolescence has become widespread, both in schools and in public discourse. It is an age-old issue we are now more aware of and feel more responsible for. To support school communities – particularly teachers, principals, and families – in facing the difficult challenge of aggression and violence among girls, SISTER focuses on models to prevent and counter female bullying by actively involving adolescent girls and betting on the strength of female relationships expressed through sisterhood. The volume begins by exploring the identity transition typical of adolescence and the specific traits of female bullying, which qualitatively differs from male bullying. It then goes on to analyze data on bullying in Italy, also drawing on the results of the national research project “Bullying at School: An Intersectional Mixed-Method Study” conducted in the cities of Foggia, Arezzo, Perugia, Verona, Milan, Genoa, and Palermo. The book’s core focuses on the outcomes of the SISTER pilot project: a participatory action-research and training process involving students and teachers from two upper secondary schools in Verona during the 2022–2023 academic years. Through the narrative of experiences such as emotional and affective self-awareness training (16 Attitudes) and the empowerment of the ability to act rather than observe (Theatre of the Oppressed), the book shows that what makes anti-bullying actions truly effective is the meaningful involvement of those who are the real “experts” on female bullying: the girls themselves. Beyond female bullying, there is sisterhood.

Abstract
Beyond female bullying, there is sisterhood.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
