The essay examines how classical-like clothing was recreated between the 15th and 16th centuries. The examples are taken from two nuptial festivities and show the mixture of ancient, modern and invented features. The first case concerns the mythological characters depicted in the Description of the wedding between Costanzo Sforza and Camilla of Aragona (Pesaro, 1475); the second addresses the costumes of the allegories for the Intermedi, represented in Florence in 1589 to celebrate the wedding between Ferdinando de’ Medici and Christine of Lorraine.

Abstract
The essay examines how classical-like clothing was recreated between the 15th and 16th centuries. The examples are taken from two nuptial festivities and show the mixture of ancient, modern and invented features. The first case concerns the mythological characters depicted in the Description of the wedding between Costanzo Sforza and Camilla of Aragona (Pesaro, 1475); the second addresses the costumes of the allegories for the Intermedi, represented in Florence in 1589 to celebrate the wedding between Ferdinando de’ Medici and Christine of Lorraine.File in questo prodotto:
