The confluences of the Parma and Enza tributaries in the Po River. Environmental transformations and socio-territorial processes drawn from geo-iconographic sources (XV-XIX centuries)

This paper focuses on medium-scale serial maps, setting out the potential and limits of this type of source and the need to supplement it with other document sources as well as with other types of maps. The results concerning environmental transformations have been presented along with those of previous investigations in order to represent the point at which the overall reached knowledge stands. Building a wider and wider database and tools to extract different types of documents starting from queries on specific aspects previously recorded through the filing of maps enables agile investigations across many maps different by type and purpose.The prospects of the research work presented herein are intrinsically linked to the use of diverse disciplinary approaches, as well as to the potential in reading the abundant documentation found on variable scales.
