"Sguardo a Levante": Rodi antica nelle ricerche storico-epigrafiche di Mario Segre

This chapter investigates Mario Segre’s interest in the history of Ancient Rhodes. During his research stays in the Dodecanese Islands (from 1930-1940), he published ten articles on the subject in some of the most prominent academic journals in classical studies at the time—the Rivista di Filologia e d’Istruzione Classica, Athenaeum, Clara Rhodos, and the Bulletin de la Société Archéologique d’Alexandrie. These articles demonstrate his refined epigraphical expertise and historical sensibility, which paved the way for him to be genuinely appreciated by many of his fellow classicists, including G. De Sanctis and A. Momigliano.
