The unpublished manuscript of Piacenza, dated 1845, contains relevant pieces of information and illustrations of several Cypriot funerary slabs from the Lusignan period. Due to the troubled history of the island, many of these monuments have either disappeared or been moved to different contexts from those witnessed by the 19th-century writer of the manuscript in Piacenza. This paper aims on the one hand to provide a preliminary description of the volume and to identify its author, while on the other hand it seeks to assess the data obtainable from this kind of «graphic collection» for the study of missing funerary monuments, through a comparative analysis between the manuscript and the still extant funerary slab made for Marie de Bessan.

Abstract
The unpublished manuscript of Piacenza, dated 1845, contains relevant pieces of information and illustrations of several Cypriot funerary slabs from the Lusignan period. Due to the troubled history of the island, many of these monuments have either disappeared or been moved to different contexts from those witnessed by the 19th-century writer of the manuscript in Piacenza. This paper aims on the one hand to provide a preliminary description of the volume and to identify its author, while on the other hand it seeks to assess the data obtainable from this kind of «graphic collection» for the study of missing funerary monuments, through a comparative analysis between the manuscript and the still extant funerary slab made for Marie de Bessan.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
