The article examines some possible examples of submerged Latin in ancient grammatical texts, starting from late orthographic treatises, such as the Appendix Probi, Consentius, and the corpus of the Ps. Caper. These examples concern cases of uncertain spelling, gender difficulties, and phonetic phenomena such as vowel alternations. Some of these testimonies allow us to cautiously identify certain persistent substandard uses in Latin popular language.
